Champions League Final 2014 – Real Madrid vs Atletico

Champions League Final 2014 - Real Madrid vs Atletico MadridThe Champions League final may be in Lisbon, but what a derby this one is! Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid

Real Madrid went to Munich with a 1-0 aggregate lead and promptly won the second leg, 4-0, with a Cristiano Ronaldo brace. Meanwhile, Atletico went to London and beat Chelsea, 3-1 following a goal-less draw in Spain last week.

The two teams have already met four times this season, with Atletico Madrid winning 1-0 on September 28, Real Madrid twice and the teams drew in their most recent match, 2-2, on March 2.

Atletico’s season has been nothing short of amazing. They lack both the budget and overall depth of squad yet they could be in line for the double.

Midfielder Tiago believes the manager, Diego Simeone, has been the catalyst for the club’s success: “Simeone has a lot to do with it. He has changed our mentality. We all work together, we work as a team. Playing like we play we are the strongest team in the world and we deserve what we have in this moment. We don’t have anything, it’s true, but we’re close to having something.”

But Real Madrid are also in excellent form with Cristiano Ronaldo (52 goals, 13 assists in all competitions), Karim Benzema (26 goals, 13 assists), Gareth Bale (20 goals, 16 assists) and Angel di Maria (12 goals, 20 assists) all bagging goals for fun.

So who will be the winners of this great competition? I fear that in the end, Real Madrid’s stars are capable of too much excellence and frankly they look unstoppable.

My prediction: 2-0 Real Madrid? What do you think will be the score in the 2014 Champions League Final?
